The 7 terms returned 622 distinct apps between them on 31 August 2026. 323 of those are in the lane on their own words — the rest are pedometers, calorie counters and water reminders that Apple returns because a relevance search answers "sober days" with anything about days. The Methodology below says exactly which rules kept which.

3 apps hold 62.7% of every rating in the lane

The 323 apps carry 476,952 ratings between them. The biggest 3 — I Am Sober, Everything AA and Reframe: Drink Less & Thrive — carry 298,844 of them. Widen it to the top 10 and the share is 85.0%.

I Am Sober alone holds 39.0% of the lane's ratings, on 185,782. A rating count is not a user count and nobody should read it as one — but it is the only measure of use Apple publishes, and it is the same measure for every row.

31.9% of them have never been rated

103 of the 323 apps carry no rating at all, and 204 — 63.2% — carry fewer than 10. The median app in this lane has 3 ratings. The 161 apps in the bottom half hold 93 ratings between them.

That is the shape of the market and it is worth saying plainly: the sobriety lane is not crowded with successful apps. It is crowded with apps nobody has opened.

15.8% have shipped no update in 12 months

51 of the 323 were last updated more than 365 days before 31 August 2026. The median app was updated 87 days before that date, and 100 shipped something in the 30 days before it — so the lane has a working half and a still half, with little in between.

10 of the still ones have 100 ratings or more. Those are the ones that matter to a reader: an app with people on it that has stopped being maintained. A day counter keeps counting either way, which is why a store listing rewards checking the update date before the star rating.

53.6% of the lane arrived in the last 12 months

173 of the 323 were first released within 365 days of the measurement, and 86 of those have no ratings yet. The median app in the lane is 335 days old.

Read the last three findings together and the picture is one market being refilled faster than it is being used: new listings arrive constantly, almost none of them accumulate ratings, and 15.8% of the shelf has already stopped moving.

The oldest app still being worked on shipped in 2011

I'm Done Drinking first appeared on 2 August 2011 and was last updated on 12 April 2026 — 15 years of listing, still maintained. At the other end, the newest arrival in the sweep is Dry Days: Sober Counter, first released on 20 August 2026, 11 days before the measurement.
