Sober October 2026 Tracker

Thirty-one days, one grid, no shame. Check in once a day — and if a day goes sideways, it gets logged, not punished.

The rule of Sober October 2026 is one line: no alcohol from October 1 to October 31, 2026.

  • Thirty-one consecutive alcohol-free days. Day 1 is October 1; Day 31 is Halloween.
  • Alcohol-free beer, wine and mocktails are fine — the line is alcohol, not the glass in your hand.
  • No sign-up, no start date to choose, nothing to install. The month begins on its own for everyone at once.
  • A day with a drink gets logged, not punished. Nothing resets, and the alcohol-free days you already have stay yours.
  • Started late? Start on the day you are on. The grid counts the days you actually give it.

Why a whole month

A dry weekend tells you almost nothing. Thirty-one days is long enough for the change to show up in things you can actually feel: sleep that deepens inside the first two weeks, steadier energy and mood behind it, and — for regular drinkers — blood pressure and liver measures that move within the month.

October does the social work too. “I’m doing Sober October” is a complete sentence at a bar in a way that “not tonight” never quite is. The month began as Macmillan’s Go Sober for October fundraiser and grew into a reset people run on their own terms. This tracker is the independent version: 31 tiles, an honest count, and a month that keeps going whatever lands on it.

Drinking heavily every day? Stopping abruptly can be medically dangerous — check your withdrawal risk and talk to a doctor before Day 1.

Don’t want to wait for October? The 30-day no alcohol challenge runs the same structure from any start date — the physiology doesn’t check the calendar.

A drank day is a data point, not a verdict. The month keeps going.

Money you kept

Estimated, not counted $0 Add your usual weekly spend and this fills in.

This is an estimate, not a receipt: your weekly spend divided by seven, multiplied by the alcohol-free days you have logged. Rounds you bought, taxis home and the late delivery add-ons aren’t in it — the real figure is usually higher.

Prefer paper?

Print a clean one-page October calendar — 31 boxes, weekday-aligned and dated, black on white and ready for the fridge door. Days you have already logged alcohol-free come out pre-ticked, so the paper and the page hold the same month. The same dialog will save it as a PDF.

Cleared.

If October is not the month you are in

How this is calculated

Days are counted on your device's own calendar, so October 1 is Day 1 and October 31 is Day 31 wherever you are. Every tile is exactly what you logged — alcohol-free, drank, or nothing yet — and the totals are plain counts of those tiles: a drank day is recorded and never restarts the month. The money figure is your stated usual weekly spend divided by seven, multiplied by your alcohol-free days, so it is an estimate of money that did not leave your account rather than a measurement; rounds bought for other people, taxis and late delivery are not in it, which is why the real number is usually higher. The physical changes described on the page are the windows reported for people who stop drinking — sleep in the first weeks, then blood pressure and liver blood tests across a month — and they are population averages, not a prediction about you.

Our editorial policy explains how these tools and articles are researched and kept up to date.

Why this matters

A named month is a strange kind of gift. Nothing about your body knows it is October, but everyone around you does — which means for thirty-one days you get a reason that needs no defending, no story about your relationship with alcohol, no negotiation at the third round. The calendar carries the awkward part for you. That is most of what makes a sober month work, and it is also why the month has to be honest to be worth anything.

So this tracker does not restart. Most challenge apps treat a single drink as a reset to zero, which quietly teaches you that a month with one bad Tuesday is worth exactly as much as a month you never began. It is not. Twenty-seven alcohol-free days out of thirty-one is a profoundly different October from your usual one — your sleep knows it, your blood pressure knows it, your bank balance knows it. The grid on this page keeps every day you actually lived, in the colour it actually was, and then it keeps going. That is the whole design.

Asked and answered

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the rules of Sober October 2026?
No alcohol from October 1 to October 31, 2026. That is the whole rulebook — 31 consecutive alcohol-free days, no other conditions. Alcohol-free beer and mocktails are allowed; the line is alcohol, not the ritual of a drink in your hand. Some fundraising versions sell "golden ticket" night-off passes, but the straight version is simply 31 days.
When does Sober October 2026 start and end?
Day 1 is October 1, 2026. Day 31 is Halloween, October 31. There is no sign-up window and no start date to choose — the month begins on its own, for everyone, at once. Find this page mid-month and you start on the day you are on; the tracker counts the days you actually give it rather than the ones you missed.
What is Sober October?
A month-long break from alcohol every October. It began as "Go Sober for October", a Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser in the UK, and has grown into a general reset month people run worldwide — with or without the fundraising. This tracker is independent and not affiliated with Macmillan.
What if I drink on one of the days?
Log it and keep going. The month does not restart and the grid does not lie — 27 alcohol-free days out of 31 is a very different month from your usual one, and the tracker treats it that way.
Can I print the Sober October calendar?
Yes. The print button renders a clean one-page October 2026 grid — weekday-aligned, dated, black on white, ready for the fridge door. Days you have already logged alcohol-free come out pre-ticked, so the paper and the page hold the same month. The same dialog saves it as a PDF.
What happens to my body during a sober month?
Typically: better sleep inside two weeks, steadier energy and mood, and for regular drinkers, improvements in blood pressure and liver measures within the month. Our sobriety timeline tool maps the sequence day by day.
Is it safe for me to stop drinking for a month?
For most people, yes. If you drink heavily every day, stopping abruptly can be medically dangerous — check the withdrawal risk tool and talk to a doctor before Day 1.
What is the difference between Sober October and Dry January?
The month, and nothing else that matters. Both are 31 alcohol-free days; October came out of a Macmillan fundraiser, January out of an Alcohol Change UK campaign. Your body cannot tell them apart. Pick whichever one is closer, or run the same structure from any start date with the 30-day challenge.
